  • You obiously have no idea about the history of DM. The problems that made Alan leave wasn’t between him and Dave, as a matter of fact, they got along really well. In lots of interviews Alan has said that the only one who always acknowledged his contribution to the band was Dave. The issue was with the rest of the group, especially Martin. I think DM have done some really good things since Alan´s departure, their golden age are long gone, but they have honored their legacy with every new album

  • I love the disc ULTRA one of my faves. I think Delta Machine is a great disc as well the two in between not so much, but I am excited to purchase the Delta Machine tour on DVD. I disliked the production of the «Tour of the universe».

  • But Dave wasn’t «Dave» at that time, so Alan was on his own, I think… damn it, i can’t get over this ><

  • Tim Simenon was an excellent producer, and all the musicians on this album were great.

  • Wow. I am amazed at how many people it took to replace Alan…. all those musicians and producer. He was an invaluable member of the group.
Don’t get me wrong, it was an excellent album, but just saying.
I wonder if the band realizes this.

  • I agree. I don’t think Ultra is a bad album. I like a lot of the songs. I agree with you 100% that the last two albums have been so bad. I just wish they can do one more album together just to see what they can come up with. I can only wish.

  • I actually slightly disagree. I feel like Ultra was a very solid album. Different feel, definitely a bit dated but still dark and a good energy to it. Once they proved themselves with Ultra, they just started going downhill. Last two albums have been rather terrible

  • Let’s be honest now. Their last 3-4 albums have been average at best and recent album and tour is a disappointment. The real group ended in 1995 when Alan left. I would rather have them go on the road and do another singles tour. Did not even waste my money this time around. It’s a crying shame.

  • I wonder what remix or version of Useless is at the begining in 2:05… Anybody knows?

  • Да уж, подробнее некуда… Тогда были в таком паршивом состоянии, и записали шикарный альбом, а сейчас в отличном состоянии записывают такое говнище… :(

  • And now we know that without him they d never had survived the 90s. Just listen to wht they have released since then and it s quite obvious he was the SOUND of DM. What they do now shows the lack of musicianship, vision and originality the rest of the band suffer from.

  • I’m 23 and «discovered» DM about 2 months ago. And I can’t ignore «Shake the Disease» or «Everything Counts», because these songs are brilliant, among many! I become a big fan and asking myself where they were all my life…

  • Ok, so if you’d actually look up on the thread you’d see somebody saying «Look around you at next concerts, all 30+ fans». I was just dismissing that, giving an example with myself. An fyi, yes, I do not adore the bands work before «Black Celebration» as much as the rest and it’s just a matter of personal taste. You have an opinion, you’re entitled to it, but don’t comment on my personality, you know nothing about it… but oh wait, this is the internet, you can say anything without proof!

  • What does your age has to do with anything? I was about 15 when I first heard DM when Ultra came out but then I discovered the older stuff and I realized immediately it was their best stuff. You don’t like the older stuff cos you have shitty taste in music not because you’re 22.

  • I’m sorry to say that after 1997 DP has not put out a worthy (for them) album; there may be one or two decent singles on each albums after Songs of Faith and Devotion (1993), but not many; Depeche Mode were in their glory from 1984- 1993; they were probably, other than New Order, Erasure and Pet Shop Boys the best new wave/alternative bands of the 80’s and 90’s

  • in 101 fletch himself said he’s not musically talented and his one job was to keep everyone together, and he couldn’t even do that. truly useless, the wrong member left

  • i love everyone in DM since 1986, Dave, Martin, Alan, Andy! It was really upsetting that Alan left the band….but i still love the band with or without Alan…as well as Alan with or without DM…….!!!!! YEAH!
