Discussion: Best DM songs performances in Live?

Since the [last discussion](https://www.reddit.com/r/depechemode/comments/6fflm2/discussion_most_underrated_dm_songs/?utm_content=title&utm_medium=hot&utm_source=reddit&utm_name=depechemode) was well received by the sub, here is another one:
What do you think are the best individual song perfomances that DM played in live?

My top picks are:

**[8. Personal Jesus — Tour of the Universe (2009)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9f2BmlDB4w)**
Maybe this is the «rockiest» version of Personal Jesus. It was the ending song for Tour of the Universe gigs. The final guitar arrangements were really epic and the perfect way to finish a show.

**[7. Photographic — Some Great Reward Tour (1984)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pWmU966LanY)**
From the «World We Live In and Live in Hamburg» VHS, this particular perfomance of the old classic Photographic was outstanding. I believe this was one of the greatest performances of Alan Wilder and Andy Fletcher, the sounds of keyboards were at the highest point. The perfect song to dance…

**[6. Everything Counts — Devotional Tour (1993)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vb-sTOAA4GQ)**
Back to one of the darkest era of DM. Everything Counts was the finale song of the Devotional concerts and it was a more different and grunge version than the original one. Amazing performance.

**[5. Strangelove — Tour For The Masses (1988)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o6HoIv_7Kgs)**
In the mythical Rose Bowl — Pasadena, the place of the 101 show. In my opinion this was the highest peak of Dave’s voice, the whole 101 show was amazing, but the performance of this song was solid as hell. Also really like final instrumental arragements that were different from the original studio song and made the ending of Strangelove even more epic.

**[4. When The Body Speaks — Exciter Tour (2001)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DKNKOMWunNw)**
Surprised? Maybe one of the most underrated perfermonces of DM ever… I think this live version of «When The Body Speaks» was one of, if not the most beautiful and emotional one that DM played in their whole career. Just view the video to the end… The final guitar notes from Martin gives me goosebumps everytime I listen them.

**[3. Walking In My Shoes — Exciter Tour (2001)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pvV-B4JJqvM)**
My favourite one. The Exciter version of «Walking In My Shoes» was the most explosive and powerful song of all DM concerts. The drums, guitars, keyboards, all of them were so fu**ing good. Brutal performance. «If you try walking in myyyyyyyyyyyyyyy… shoes»

**[2. Enjoy The Silence — The Singles Tour (1998)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V7eR7AqvUkI)**
4:30 — 5:38 That guitar solo was out of this planet, no more to say. Maybe the best Depeche sound ever.

**[1. Never Let Me Down Again — Touring The Angel (2006)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pvV-B4JJqvM)**
Never Let Me Down Again is the song with the biggest number of performances (more than 800) and the most iconic and influential DM song in live. The detail of arm-shaking at the end of the song is so awesome and the most touching moment of DM concerts. I chose this specific version of Touring The Angel because I think it’s the most sophisticated, solid and mature performance of this incredible song.

Your opinion?
Cheers

  • I’ll give a few….

    1. Higher Love — Devotional Tour
    2. Behind the Wheel — Devotional Tour
    3. Halo — Playing the Angel Tour

Although not his best personal moments, Dave’s voice, during the Devotional Tour will never be replicated.

  • [Master and Servant from the 101](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zpUlS923dXg) was insanely good. Put that through a good speaker, and you’ll bring the house down. Alan just made it sound deafening.

In general, we have to thank Alan immensely for every live version that was different from the albums. He always arranged them with every engineer/producer who worked with him.

Oh, and this. This you have to listen to. 100x better than the original.
[I Want You Now — World Violation Tour (1990)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qm47V2ZOQH8)

Finally, the [Walking in my Shoes — Devotional Tour](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-PoeHf3ygg0) is the only DM song that is definitely set to make me cry. That orchestral ending of the song (which I have connected to an elegy of Alan before he departed) always ruined me emotionally.

  • Walking in my shores — Devotional is the best I thing. Although I’ve seen them 5 shows, this stays the best. Out of I’ve seen Excite tour’s enjoy the silence, walking in my shoes, never let me down

  • The «Devotional» version of Everything Counts just knocks the socks of any other performance of it as far as I’m concerned.

And we can’t forget the «101» version of Never Let Me Down Again.
