Unsound Methods is the third Recoil studio album, released in 1997. It was recorded at Alan Wilder’s home studio, The Thin Line, in Sussex, during sessions that lasted from September 1996 to March 1997. The album was produced by Alan Wilder, with assistance and coordination by Hepzibah Sessa, and additional production and engineering by Steve Lyon. The album was mixed by Wilder (with assistance from Paul Stevens and Simon Shazell).

Unsound Methods was Alan Wilder’s fourth Recoil release, and his first since leaving Depeche Mode in June 1995.

The music was far different than that of previous Recoil offerings. According to Wilder, «…The sound relates much more to the approach taken on Depeche Mode’s Songs of Faith and Devotion LP, which featured and combined lots of snatches of performance (with all their inherent feel). These parts were then sampled andsequenced utilizing all the available technology, to hopefully achieve something more interesting than the sound of a band playing together.»

Spoken word artist Maggie Estep, Nitzer Ebb vocalist Douglas McCarthy, Songs of Faith and Devotion backup singer Hildia Campbell, and Siobhan Lynch were all vocalists. The performers could not be more different, but it helped make the album diverse and original.

Recoil — Stalker — Lirycs

I can make a perfect picture from a voice
Her serenity oozed into my ear
It didn’t take long for her to know me
And I knew it felt good
Pick me up and use me
Pick me up and use me she was saying

You are nothing
You are nothing without me
You are nothing
You are nothing without me
If I am taken
You think that you can live again
But you are nothing
You are nothing without me

You know I’m here for you
Right here for you
See I am the punished one
She, she took all the glory
She took everything
Everything I had to give
Sucking it out of me
But I am always gonna be here
Because I am the punished one
She took everything
She took all the glory
Everything I had to give
Sucking it out of me

You are nothing
You are nothing without me
You are nothing
You are nothing without me
If I am taken
You think that you can live again
But you are nothing
You are nothing without me
Without me you’re nothing

Рекойл — проекта бывшего участника Depeche Mode Алана Уайлдера. Клип интересен песней и тем, что в нем снимается единственная в мире китайская модель альбиноска.

  • What a stunning music video — you can FEEL how intense his obsession is,
how even though he may not be in the room with her, it’s like he is,
touching her, hunting her. And Connie Chiu’s so beautiful in this video —
the atmosphere, the discordant melody, the rough vocalization — it all
    works so so well.

  • Anyone who thinks Wilder returning to DM would solve all their problems
should listen to crap lie this. Unbelievable drivel.

  • Indeed! Connie Chiu was the world’s first albinistic fashion model. She was
born in Hong Kong to a Chinese family. Like many people with albinism, she
has to protect her photosensitive eyes and skin from the sunlight. As a
result, her family moved to Sweden when she was seven (wikipedia). ;)

  • even though this is incredibly creepy, I actually have it stuck in my head.
Also, the guitar/telephone sound has to be one of my favourite samples ever.

  • Alan’s beasts and Doug’s lyrics and voice. That is just brilliant. Doug
plays it really good. «Pick me up and use me she was saying». Can you get
    more psychotic than that?

  • for me A.Wilder it’s the great master..he invented the sound for Violator
(my favourite album of all times)..Songs of.. and Music for the
masses…though i like Ultra and Playing the angel i think that it’s time
for DM to experiment again with new sounds…and with Alan again of course..

  • Surely one of the most «unique» songs ever, this is spooky, haunting and
totally brilliant. Alan Wilder is ,for me,a genius.

  • There we go again with another fine example from Mr. Wilder, how this
project has stood the test of time, remaining a tight and strong music
    collective in their genre.
